Ouch

Last night, we took a minivan cab home from The Levee. Sarah's friend was staying with us, so I helped him with his bags in the trunk of the minivan. Unfortunately, as I was turning away from the trunk with the bag, the cabdriver closed the trunk too early and nicked my head with the corner of the trunk. It didn't hurt, but once I got inside we discovered that my forehead was bleeding just above my hairline. A little hair trim, ice pack, and liquid bandage, and I'm as good as new. You can't see it and it's not even sore! I'm quite lucky.

In other news, this blog is number 9 on google for "Polish Girls Gone Wild". I know this because someone actually found my site searching with this phrase.

Brooklyn Army Terminal

This is the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park Brooklyn, at about 56th Street and 1st Avenue. The building was designed by Cass Gilbert as an Army warehouse and material depot in the 1910s. The gigantic building is currently operated by the City of New York as a center for light manufacturing, warehousing, and back-office businesses. Fun fact: this is the place where Elvis departed for Germany in 1958.

Note that Gothamist uses the word "lactarded" too, which I have to give Peter credit for introducing.

Dresser Painting Fantastique!

So the project of the past week has been painting this dresser that I bought for $20 on the street

The acquisition of the dresser is in itself a tale, as I bought it on the day of the NYC Marathon, which runs through Greenpoint and Williamsburg. I bought the dresser in Williamsburg, and had to get it back to Greenpoint, so I called a car service. But the problem is that I was on the other side of the marathon route... So we ended up going backwards three blocks to get as close as possible to my house. Very entertaining.

I consulted with Kristin and Josh on colors, and Kristin came up with the idea to fade the drawers.

The finished product!

I am pretty satisfied with this, I tells ya.

Deep Thoughts

by Jack Handey, this time. These are seriously one of my favorite forms of humor.

People need to realize that every time they talk about how "fragile" our planet is, it's just like asking outer space aliens to come invade us.

Uh, Right....

"Former House majority leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.), who was instrumental in shaping the [pork-laden] highway bill in the House, apologized for its excesses during an appearance on Thursday before the Heritage Foundation. In a speech to a group of conservative academics and policy experts, DeLay blamed the runaway spending of recent years on minority Democrats. When he took questions, the first came from a senior official at the American Conservative Union, who asked DeLay, 'How large does the Republican majority in the House and Senate need to be before Republicans act like the fiscal conservative I thought we were?'"

Could there be any worse excuse? Does this mean the party that controls the three branches of government can't control the power of the purse?
